Clarification on mailer

We sent out a mailer to our entire area to keep people up to date and inform them of the planning commission meeting in June and a community meeting we have set for May 17th. Unfortunately it seems that the wording might confuse people that the CAB meeting is on May 17th. The flyer was made and planned before we knew about the CAB meeting while we were gearing up for the June meeting.

The Community Advisory Board meeting is in fact on Thursday at 6:00. A community meeting led by Ken Allen to discuss the project has been set for May 17th and the big one is on June 6th.

Hopefully people will not directed away from the Thursday meeting with this. Do what you can to spread the word and get people out on Thursday. Some people have offered to put up signs in their area about the meeting. Anyone wanting to make their own in their area is encouraged to do so as well. Thanks for all the work everyone has put into this!

URGENT! Calling all concerned residents!!!

It is time to get things in gear with the CAB meeting. We need more volunteers!!! We have a huge and detailed presentation to give to the board at the meeting on Thursday that hits Ascente everywhere where it hurts. If they are truly listening to us, they can’t ignore the points we have made here.

We need 9 more people!!! Talk to your neighbors. Spread the word! It’s super simple, you’ll just sign up with me, I’ll get you with your team captain who will lead you through your part of the presentation and you’ll even have a script that you can just read, or re-write for yourself using your own words. If you don’t want to talk, just show up anyway! We can do this if we have a lot of support.

Just email me at this site… if you have emailed me before and I didn’t respond, I apologize. just know I am on this like a hawk the next week. See you all soon!

CAB Meeting May 11th!!

We did not include in our last post that Ascente will be going back to the CAB on May 11th! Make sure you spread the word and lets get as many people out as possible. Showing up in numbers to these meetings is an important step in fighting the development.

Its GO time

Hello neighbors! Its time to get your hard hats on and go to work. The new proposal is in and here it is!
New Ascente Proposal

This proposal will be presented to the planning commission at the June meeting which will probably be held on the 6th.

At this meeting residents will be given 3 minute slots to express their concerns. The committee, with the exhaustive work of Ken Allen and Todd Mihevc, has put together a presentation to cover all of the issues. We will block out the first 30 minutes of comment and, due to the individual time constants, have various speakers delivering our presentation. We are in need of more presenters if you would like to be involved. You would be reading from a prepared presentation and would need to stay on your topic. Please let us know if you would be interested. We will be scheduling a run through of the presentation on June 1st.

A mailer will be going out to all the residents in our area to call as many people to the meeting as possible. There will be an attached postcard for you to be able to mail your comments directly to the commission. Please be on the lookout for this mailer, and make sure you spread the word to all your neighbors.

Hope to see all of you at the upcoming events!

Long Breaks and Small Victories

Hello dear neighbors, it’s been a while! Many of you must have been wondering what in the world is going on with the whole Ascente deal?! Well, if you haven’t already found out for yourself, there is some good news behind the long break since December. We discovered, partly due to all the hard work of our concerned communities, Ascente was forced to go back to the drawing board, so to speak. I apologize for the lack of communication since then, but I’ve been taking advantage of the break to get back into the swing things with my kids. I promise to be more diligent about updating you through the rest of this process.

The developers will need to submit a completely new plan. We are not yet sure of all the changes they were forced to make, but we believe they will be submitting in the next month or two. So we need to be ready!

The team has put together a presentation to give to the planning commission at the eventual meeting. They have worked really hard to organize a concise, to the point, and effective presentation that hits on all the pertinent concerns raised by our community at large, submitted through this website and other meetings. At the eventual commission meeting, each person will have only 3 minutes to speak, so we have put together a list of volunteers from our community to read sections of our presentation, 3 minutes at a time. We are still in the need for volunteers if anyone would like to do more in this fight. Please contact us if you have an interest in helping, or any knowledge or experience that could help us moving forward.

When the plan is eventually submitted, we will have a short turnaround to make adjustments to any changes in the plan. Right now we believe we will be preparing for the commission meeting the first week of June. BUT this meeting could easily be moved up or pushed back again, so we must remain diligent. Long breaks create apathy, which is the enemy of such a battle.

We plan on holding a large community meeting in May to discuss all of the issues and go over our presentation. At this meeting you can get A LOT more detail about our plans. You will receive a post here, as well as a mailer at home the moment we have a set date.

As always, please spread the word about the fight. Get others to sign up for this mailer. The more people that show up to these meetings, the less the county can ignore us.

Thank you all, I wish you all a beautiful spring! (thank god).

THE meeting Jan 3rd

Hello neighbors!! The time has come! A decision will be made.

The Washoe County Planning Commission meeting is Tues Jan 3rd, at 6:30 p.m. in the Washoe County Commission Chambers, 1001 E. 9th Street, Building A, First Floor, Reno.

It is absolutely VITAL that we get as many of our neighbors as possible to pack the house! Call the baby sitters, talk to your neighbors, canvas your area to make sure everyone knows about it. We will be sending out mailers to the entire area with an attached postcard for you to send your thoughts to our commissioners prior to the meeting. Please keep an eye open for it.

We have been working with many residents  from all over the Mt Rose corridor to gather as much info as we can. We have worked with experts from geologists and hydrologists, to lawyers, developers, engineers, environmental specialists and many other fields to develop the best plan of attack possible.

With this input, we have put together a half hour presentation, with power point, visual aids and video packages, that we will be delivering at the commission meeting. Due to the 3 minute limit per speaker, we have gathered volunteers from our area to read sections from our prepared statement. If you have any interest in being one of these volunteers please contact us at this website. If you wish to add your own 2 cents, you are encouraged to sign up for a speaking slot! Just know that we will be blocking out the first half hour of speaking slots for the presentation.

If you are unable to attend, but would like to know what was presented, we will post more information AFTER the meeting.

PLEASE NOTE, this meeting is subject to change, but we will not know until very close to the date. If you haven’t done so, please sign up for our mailer on the home page to receive meeting updates.

We hope to see you all there. Lets protect our way of life!

Back in action! Meeting TOMORROW

Hello neighbors. I am finally back from a month of South America travels, holidays with the family, and vacation time and a lot has happened in my absence. The group has been hard at work and put together a meeting  for tomorrow, Tuesday the 13, at 5:30 at 5250 Shawna Ln.

I know this is a pretty last second post, but I am just now catching up on all of my emails, so hopefully you can attend. Sometime later this week I will be putting together a post to catch everyone up on what we talk about this meeting, what happened at the CAB meeting, and any other important information from over the last month.

Hope to see you all tomorrow!

The next month

Hello neighbors. I just wanted to remind everyone of the CAB meeting coming up on the 10th. Please  be sure to spread the word and get out as many of us as possible. It is vital to have a big turn out if we want to fight this development.

Also, I am going out of country and will not be home until December. So you will not hear from me for a while. So I hope everyone can do their best on staying on top of important meetings and happenings in my absence. I wish you all good luck in the upcoming meetings!

CAB Meeting update!

The new CAB meeting will be held Thursday Nov 10th, 6:00 at the South Valley library.

Click here for the meeting agenda page

The  Washoe County Planning Commission meeting has been postponed until January to allow time for concerns at the CAB to be heard. That meeting has not been set as of yet.

Our team members have organized a presentation based on input from everyone in our community, either via this site or in person at meetings. I have attached the presentations here for you to review. If you have anything to add, feel free to sign up to speak at the meeting and add your thoughts! You have 3 minutes to speak if you choose to do so.

I have also attached a flyer with the meeting information. If anyone wants to print some out and hand them out around the neighborhood, we could always use the help!

I will be out of country during this meeting, but I hope we’re able to get a great turnout and good luck!
